[Book Review] Carrier Of the Mark by Leigh Fallon

Carrier of the Mark (Carrier, #1)Carrier Of the Mark
by
Their love was meant to be.

When Megan Rosenberg moves to Ireland, everything in her life seems to fall into place. After growing up in America, she's surprised to find herself feeling at home in her new school. She connects with a group of friends, and she is instantly drawn to darkly handsome Adam DeRÍs.

But Megan is about to discover that her feelings for Adam are tied to a fate that was sealed long ago—and that the passion and power that brought them together could be their ultimate destruction.

What the f did I just read??

First of all - let me just say that I'm sure a lot of you saw all of the negative reviews on Goodreads about this book and I'm with them. Therefore this will be just a short rant about the book that had potential but was very poorly executed...

...AS IN:

1. I hated all of the characters.

2. Elements topic wasn't the main focus as it should have been.

3. It's all about OMG-He's-Hot-&-I-Can't-Live-Without-Him.

The whole situation just felt fake - conversations, "magic tricks", talking through the earth and fire. And when Megan finds out that she is a part of the element, she only thinks about Adam and not about how her life just turned around. It just felt staged and empty.

Then there's Adam and he is a little creepy, not going to lie. He's completely obsessed with Megan and all scenes with him eating her face and declaring his love for her on the second day they meet is just annoying. And Megan falls for that and might even blame it on her powers. But she doesn't care!

OMG HOW SHE DOESN'T CARE!!!

She doesn't care so much that she would rather not have any powers and be with him even if it means that the world would end and they would have monster babies that would end the world. *gag*

[Book Review] All That Glows by Ryan Graudin

All That GlowsAll That Glows

Emrys—a fiery, red-headed Fae—always embraced her life in the Highlands, far from the city’s draining technology, until she’s sent to London to rejoin the Faery Guard. But this isn’t any normal assignment—she’s sent to guard Prince Richard: Britain’s notorious, partying bad boy and soon-to-be King. The prince’s careless ways and royal blood make him the irresistible for the dark spirits that feed on mortals. Sweet, disheveled, and alive with adventure—Richard is one charge who will put Emrys’s magic and heart to the test.

When an ancient force begins preying on the monarchy, Emrys must hunt through the London’s magical underworld, facing down Banshees, Black Dogs and Green Women to find the one who threatens Richard’s life. In this chaos of dark magic, palace murders and paparazzi, Emrys finds herself facing an impossible choice. For despite all her powers, Emrys has discovered a force that burns brighter than magic: love.

Trying to get through this book was painful. Not only because I wanted to find things that I liked about it but also trying to find some sort of excitement in writing.

Story begins with Emrys being assigned to rejoin the Faery Guard and her assignment is Prince Richard – party animal who just graduated and needs some serious protection from soul feeders that are roaring London. But since advanced technology been growing, the Fae cannot stay within the city long enough without getting sick. With ancient Fae starting to rise against mortals to go back to the way it used to be, Emrys needs to protect Richard and figure out if loving him will be worth losing all of her magic.

I definitely couldn’t get into the story and one thing that bothered me most was narrator’s voice. Emrys is supposed to be this elder Fae who lived through centuries and supposed to be one of the most powerful Guards. But reading her thoughts and view on the world is like reading teenager’s diary.

Teenager: “Ahhhhhhhhhh he’s so cute, like OMG! I totally wanna kiss him but my mom is gonna find out but I want to risk like everything just to be with him”.

It’s like the author had a great idea for a great Fae warrior but got side tracked by an amazing romance idea. The story did have some potential but was poorly executed and was not for me.

[Book Review] Edge Of Never by J.A. Redmerski

The Edge of Never (The Edge of Never, #1)Edge Of Never

Twenty-year-old Camryn Bennett had always been one to think out-of-the-box, who knew she wanted something more in life than following the same repetitive patterns and growing old with the same repetitive life story. And she thought that her life was going in the right direction until everything fell apart.

Determined not to dwell on the negative and push forward, Camryn is set to move in with her best friend and plans to start a new job. But after an unexpected night at the hottest club in downtown North Carolina, she makes the ultimate decision to leave the only life she’s ever known, far behind.

With a purse, a cell phone and a small bag with a few necessities, Camryn, with absolutely no direction or purpose boards a Greyhound bus alone and sets out to find herself. What she finds is a guy named Andrew Parrish, someone not so very different from her and who harbors his own dark secrets. But Camryn swore never to let down her walls again. And she vowed never to fall in love.

But with Andrew, Camryn finds herself doing a lot of things she never thought she’d do. He shows her what it’s really like to live out-of-the-box and to give in to her deepest, darkest desires. On their sporadic road-trip he becomes the center of her exciting and daring new life, pulling love and lust and emotion out of her in ways she never imagined possible. But will Andrew’s dark secret push them inseparably together, or tear them completely apart?

1 and a quarter of disappointing and completely boring stars...

I don’t know why I keep getting into the hype… I guess I’m just a sucker for following popular Goodreaders and obsessing over pretty covers *sigh*

Beginning of the story really drew me in. I mean come on – Natalie totally sounded like the obnoxious best friend everyone always wants to have and what’s there better to do then go out to a club and rebel?

But then… and are you ready for it? - DRAMA DRAMA DRAMA!! *gag*

Natalie flips out, Cam looses her head and gets on a bus to live the life of a peace-making hippy. And that’s where it gets boring.. I mean yeah, it was kind of cute how her and Andrew met but COME ON!!! Can’t you get more cliché then a hot guy/hot girl being mean to each other and then falling in love? Thought so.

Okay okay, I promise – one more thing. During their sex scene she says: “Then he touched my pelvic bone”… I’m sorry but if somebody says pelvic bone during sex, you just cannot take that seriously! I literally laughed my booty off.

Well hope this little rant was entertaining… Welcome to 2014!

[Book Review] The Ugly Stepsister Strikes Back

The Ugly Stepsister Strikes Back
The Ugly Stepsister Strikes Back
Sariah Wilson
Genre: YA Chick Lit
Everyone knows how all those fairy tales go. The princess gets beautiful, nabs her prince, falls instantly in love, lives happily ever after and leaves her evil stepsisters in the dust.

But what happens when you’re the ugly stepsister and your obnoxiously perfect—read pretty, smart, and, worst of all, sickeningly nice—stepsister is dating the charming, tall, devastatingly handsome guy you’ve had a thing for since you were nine years old?

Quirky, artistic and snarky Mattie Lowe does not lead a charmed life. Her mother is constantly belittling her on Skype. Mercedes, the school mean girl, has made it her personal mission to torment Mattie. But worst of all? Her stepsister Ella is the most beautiful, popular girl in school and is dating Mattie’s secret longtime crush, Jake Kingston.

Tired of being left out and done with waiting for her own stupid fairy godmother to show up, Mattie decides to change her life. She’ll start by running for senior class president against wildly popular Jake.

Ella can keep her Prince Annoying. Mattie’s going to rule the school.

And no one, not even a cute and suddenly flirty Jake, is going to stop her.

First of all: WHY DOES THIS BOOK HAVE A HIGH RATING??
My rating: 1 Star.

I want to keep this review short because I’m pretty sure this book killed few of my brain cells. I.FEEL.ABSOLUTELY.NOTHING. It’s like I read the book but I couldn’t connect with the characters even though the story line wasn't that bad. The main character, Mattie Lowe, was insecure, doubtful, with low self-esteem. And I’m sure that this was author’s intention of making her seem that way but personally I found it very annoying. Oh no, Jake looked at the pictures of himself that I drew and even though he’s joking around about it, she thinks the world is about to it. get over yourself. Also, there was no real conflict or climax. The only “enemy” that was in this book was Mercedes but what happens? Oh yeah, she gets suspended and everyone is happy. *Yawn*

So... THE END.
