[Feature & Follow] #3

Alison Can Read Feature & Follow

This weeks Question:

Q:  Have you ever read a book that you thought you would hate — ? Did you end up hating it? Did you end up loving it? Or would you never do that?

Actually there is a book like that. Unfortunately it was Divergent. I know, I know... It's everybody's favorite book and it so amazing.. But for me it wasn't all that great. I think it was because there was so much hype about it that I had too many inspections prior to reading it. I really wanted to love the book but I hated it.. :(

  3. I ended up really liking Divergent but the writing was so strange for me that I almost gave up after the first couple of chapters.

  4. Divergent was alright- I only read it because people were raving about it so much.

Thanks for stopping by my blog! I just followed you back. (: Happy Friday.

  6. Aw, that's too bad! Divergent was one of the few Dystopias I actually enjoyed. XD But I do understand why people wouldn't like it, even if I feel different about the series. I kinda think sometimes it just really sucks when everyone is crazy about books you hate. :/

  8. Whoops. I didn't like Divergent either; I didn't hate it, but I was expecting something extraordinary and it just fell flat for me!

  10. I thought I wouldn't like that one either, but I was pretty surprised that I did. I wouldn't say I LOVED it, but I definitely enjoyed it!

  11. Hype can be fabulous for sales, but as you mentioned, the flip side is that it can build expectations that are nearly impossible to meet.

  13. I know what you mean, I love Divergent, but there has been sometimes when I get dissopointed by a hyped up book, like Cinder by Marrisa Meyer (I think I spelled her name right). It just wasn't as good as I thought it would be.

  14. You know, I really didn't hate Divergent. I liked it, and Insurgent is sitting on my shelf staring at me. I intend to read it soon. But I also didn't LOVE it. I think it may be for the same reason you didn't--too high of expectations. Right after Divergent, I read Dan Well's Partials, and liked it way more. :D Great answer. Old follower. Happy Friday!

  15. I haven't read Divergent yet. It's always a little disappointing when there is so much hype, our expectations are really up there and the book just doesn't do that much for you. I try hard not to pay too much attention to the hype and decide does this book sound like something I would enjoy. If yes, then I go for it.

I completely agree about Divergent. Everyone is obsessed with that book but it did not do it for me. I am happy to hear that I am not alone on this one.

  17. It's so hard when you expect to be so impressed with a book, and then are let down. It's always worse when you expect to love it, and don't.

  18. I hate when I don't love a book that everyone else seems to love. Luckily, that didn't happen for me with Divergent. I listened to the audio and was so wrapped up in it that I got a speeding ticket!

  19. It's a pity that you didn't enjoy Divergent. :( I thought it was great, and I can't wait for the movie to come out! I know what your talking about though. Getting all excited for a hyped up book and being disappointed afterwards.

  21. That was absolutely a book with a *very* shocking, harsh ending, at least in terms of her family... I was really disturbed by that, even though I enjoyed the book otherwise.
