Libby Miller has always been an unwavering optimist—but when her husband drops a bomb on their marriage the same day a doctor delivers devastating news, she realizes her rose-colored glasses have actually been blinding her.
With nothing left to lose, she abandons her life in Chicago for the clear waters and bright beaches of the Caribbean for what might be her last hurrah. Despite her new sunny locale, her plans go awry when she finds that she can’t quite outrun the past or bring herself to face an unknowable future. Every day of tropical bliss may be an invitation to disaster, but with her twin brother on her trail and a new relationship on the horizon, Libby is determined to forget about fate. Will she risk it all to live—and love—a little longer?
From critically acclaimed author Camille Pagán comes a hilarious and hopeful story about a woman choosing between a “perfect” life and actually living.

“Life is devastating, if only in its limited run; but it’s incredibly good, too. And in spite of my circumstances, I could not deny that I was ready for more.”
Life and Other Near-Death Experiences is a book about actually living and what happens when your view on life and what you thought you had is stripped away from you immediately. From the very beginning, we find out that Libby has cancer and her husband drops a bomb on her at the same day, she quits her job and knows that with the short amount of time to live, she cannot be wasting any more of your life.

Booking a trip to Puerto Rico after putting the apartment for sale, she meets a local who almost gets them killed. And she knows that she is not ready to die yet and has to live her life. With so many adventures that awaits her and looking at life differently, Libby will discover herself in no other way like before.
“There was nothing I could do to change what had happened, but I could not stop myself from desperately wishing I could rewind my life and do it all over in a way that was the exact opposite of my past.”
I really enjoyed this one. I wasn't sure how I was going to feel about Libby just because her world in beginning way way too optimistic for my liking. However, once she started to get out of her comfort zone and trying new things and exploring life, I really started to connect with her and felt the same emotions that she felt. I think this is the perfect read for someone who is interesting in exploring life through someone's eyes and highly recommend it!
