[Release Day Review] The Perfectionists by Sara Shepard

The PerfectionistsThe Perfectionists
by
From the author of the #1 New York Times bestselling series Pretty Little Liars comes a thrilling new novel about five perfect girls who are framed for a murder they didn’t commit.

In Beacon Heights, Washington, five girls—Ava, Caitlin, Mackenzie, Julie, and Parker—know that you don’t have to be good to be perfect. At first the girls think they have nothing in common, until they realize that they all hate Nolan Hotchkiss, who’s done terrible things to each of them. They come up with the perfect way to kill him—a hypothetical murder, of course. It’s just a joke...until Nolan turns up dead, in exactly the way they planned. Only, they didn’t do it. And unless they find the real killer, their perfect lives will come crashing down around them.

From Sara Shepard, author of the #1 New York Times bestselling Pretty Little Liars series, comes another story of dark secrets, shocking twists, and what happens when five beautiful girls will do anything to hide the ugly truth.

As more and more reviews of The Perfectionists start popping up, we all have the same conclusion - it is very similar to Pretty Little Liars. Mostly because.. well it's from the author of Pretty Little Liars. This made me have very low expectations of the book itself because even though I like PLL, noone likes to feel like their time is being wasted on exactly same thing.

Let's start with the first part of the summary: a thrilling new novel about five perfect girls who are framed for a murder they didn’t commit. <- This right here should already tell you how similar it is to PLL. You have murder, pretty girls, high school setting, throw in mysterious cops and secrets. But despite all the similarities, I still liked the pace of the book and the mystery behind it. One thing that Sara Shepard definitely knows how to do is keep the author guessing about who did it.

Novel itself comes from all the girls' POV so you get to experience definitely sides of their lives. Ava, Caitlin, Mackenzie, Julie, and Parker are all people that in reality should have already been friends but Nolan drama only made then stronger. They all have some sort of tragedies that they go through so it definitely didn't feel boring.

However, if you are not a big fan of high school cliches, this is not for you. There is literally every single cliche that's ever been written. You have bullies, drama queens, love triangles, music buffs, jocks, sleazy teachers.. The list can go on. The only thing that I would say is that it all was wrapped up in a nice murder package that was presented with a high mystery factor.

I'm a little upset over how it ended just because I thought it was a stand alone but it looks like this will be series. It wasn't as much of a cliffhanger as stopping at a place where you almost knew that it might be solved, but you got another thing coming.
