[Book Review] Reboot by Amy Tintera

Reboot (Reboot, #1)Reboot

Five years ago, Wren Connolly was shot three times in the chest. After 178 minutes she came back as a Reboot: stronger, faster, able to heal, and less emotional.
The longer Reboots are dead, the less human they are when they return. Wren 178 is the deadliest Reboot in the Republic of Texas. Now seventeen years old, she serves as a soldier for HARC (Human Advancement and Repopulation Corporation).

Wren’s favorite part of the job is training new Reboots, but her latest newbie is the worst she’s ever seen. As a 22, Callum Reyes is practically human. His reflexes are too slow, he’s always asking questions, and his ever-present smile is freaking her out. Yet there’s something about him she can’t ignore.
When Callum refuses to follow an order, Wren is given one last chance to get him in line—or she’ll have to eliminate him. Wren has never disobeyed before and knows if she does, she’ll be eliminated, too. But she has also never felt as alive as she does around Callum.

The perfect soldier is done taking orders.

There are so many books out there that have to do with robot apocalypses where humans have to outrun them and then you have some badass guy take them one by one and save everyone at the end.. But what happens when robots a.k.a. reboots are the one who are slaves and still have some emotions left? What if they just want to live a normal life even though they’re already dead?

Well this is why you need to read Reboot - unique and exciting story about people who die and “reboot” becoming robots who are forced to work HARC – Human Advancement and Repopulation Corporation.

The longer you are dead, the less human emotion you have in you, and more efficient you are as a reboot. Wren has been dead for 178 minutes – longest anyone stayed dead. Because of that she holds a higher rank in HARC and besides going out to the most dangerous missions, she also trains highest numbers. But when she sees Collum, she is not sure what to do – he is 22. After getting to know him, they start to have some emotions between them and they decide to escape.
This was such a unique story, I loved it!! First I wasn’t sure what to think of it because Wren seemed like a complete robot – a badass robot, but nothing the less. And Collum was way too annoying to me. He was too happy, too chattery, and he always smiled – ALWAYS!! But surprisingly, him and Wren actually worked perfect together. I could not have imagined a better person to be with Wren and help with the escape throughout the whole story.

I loved the world-building. It was your typical after-end-with-sickness-and-poverty situation but because it came from robots POV, it was all new to me. There are not a lot of books that come out as new because so many things have been written about but this was it. Can’t wait to get my hands on the second book and see what happens next!
