She definitely inspired me to join in and see if I can challenge myself to start the year right with good amount of books. I decided that since this is going to be my first challenge ever, I'm going to read 4 books. I just picked them up in the library today and really excited to read them! [Book Review] Pivot Point by Kasie West

Pivot Point (Pivot Point, #1)Pivot Point

Knowing the outcome doesn’t always make a choice easier . . .

Addison Coleman’s life is one big “What if?” As a Searcher, whenever Addie is faced with a choice, she can look into the future and see both outcomes. It’s the ultimate insurance plan against disaster. Or so she thought. When Addie’s parents ambush her with the news of their divorce, she has to pick who she wants to live with—her father, who is leaving the paranormal compound to live among the “Norms,” or her mother, who is staying in the life Addie has always known. Addie loves her life just as it is, so her answer should be easy. One Search six weeks into the future proves it’s not.

In one potential future, Addie is adjusting to life outside the Compound as the new girl in a Norm high school where she meets Trevor, a cute, sensitive artist who understands her. In the other path, Addie is being pursued by the hottest guy in school—but she never wanted to be a quarterback’s girlfriend. When Addie’s father is asked to consult on a murder in the Compound, she’s unwittingly drawn into a dangerous game that threatens everything she holds dear. With love and loss in both lives, it all comes down to which reality she’s willing to live through . . . and who she can’t live without.

You know that feeling you get when you’re watching the movie and you know what’s going to happen but the main character still goes for it and you’re sitting there just yelling at the screen? Well that’s how pretty much I felt throughout the book, wanting Abbie to stop her Search.

The story takes place in Compound – a place hidden in the mountains where only people with special abilities live. Staying secret from every other Norm people is their mission and while they work on expanding their abilities, they make sure that everyone is safe and lives under specific rules. When Abbie comes home one day, she is greeted with news that her parents are getting a divorce and she needs to decide who she wants to live with. To do that she will need to use her ability to see into the future and figure out which one will play out best for her.

The whole book was not what I expected. I thought that when she looks into the future, there would be some sort of conflict like every other story I have read. But I experienced both of the alternate futures that Abbie saw which was pretty emotional. Going through six weeks of different futures was like a rollercoaster because I knew it wasn’t real but yet all of the emotions were there and made me on edge.

I would definitely recommend this book to anyone and cannot wait for the second book to come out!

[Stacking The Shelves] #7

Stacking the Shelves is a meme hosted by Tynga's Reviews featuring the books we got this week, and I also mention blog news/happenings of the past week.

Happy Holidays everyone!!! I finally got back in town and have Internet reception lol I went away on snowboarding trip with my boyfriend but we got back a day earlier because it wasn't actually that great out there. There was barely any snow so night skiing was closed and we had only few hours to snowboard. Laaaaaame!! But it was still fun. Although as far as books go, I only bought 2 books this week that I'm actually pretty excited about! Have you read them?

[Merry Christmas From Spiced Latte]

Merry Christmas

I would like to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! I really hope that this season will bring joy & happiness and all your dreams come true.

This year has truly been great and I couldn't have done it without all of you. Since getting hacked on my own blog, I had to start from scratch back in May. But meeting all new people, participating in multiple memes and Secret Santa really made it a lot of fun.

In 2014 I really want to connect more with my readers and make true friendships all across the globe. Thank you for all your support, encouragement, and all comments this year and I hope to see you back soon! I am leaving out of town for a Snowboarding trip and will have no access to internet so all of the post will be automatic. I can't wait to come back & continue this wild ride!

[Book Review] Let the Sky Fall by Shannon Messenger

Let the Sky Fall (Let the Sky Fall, #1)Let the Sky Fall

Seventeen-year-old Vane Weston has no idea how he survived the category five tornado that killed his parents. And he has no idea if the beautiful, dark-haired girl who’s swept through his dreams every night since the storm is real. But he hopes she is.

Seventeen-year-old Audra is a sylph, an air elemental. She walks on the wind, can translate its alluring songs, and can even coax it into a weapon with a simple string of commands. She’s also a guardian—Vane’s guardian—and has sworn an oath to protect Vane at all costs. Even if it means sacrificing her own life.

When a hasty mistake reveals their location to the enemy who murdered both of their families, Audra’s forced to help Vane remember who he is. He has a power to claim—the secret language of the West Wind, which only he can understand.

Unlocking his heritage will also unlock the memory Audra needs him to forget. And their greatest danger is not the warriors coming to destroy them—but the forbidden romance that’s grown between them.

“This is who I am.
A fighter.
A guardian.
Stronger than the Stormers.
Stronger than Vane.
Beyond all emotion.
I don't give in to fear or pity or love. I'm the one in control.”

Vane Weston just wants to be like everyone else and kiss a freaking girl. His life already has been a mess since surviving in category five tornado that got his parents killed. Being called the “miracle child” put a lot of pressure on him. So when he finally has a chance with a girl, he sees her. A beautiful, dark-haired girl who have been appearing in his dreams every night for ten years. After finding out the truth behind his parents’ death and that he is a sylph, the responsibility that comes with it is endless.

“How do I have anything normal, when my life's been shredded to bits, turned inside out, painted different colors and reassembled in an order I don't recognize?”

Audra has been watching over Vane for ten years. Being an air elemental brings some sacrifices like not eating or drinking to become as powerful as she can be. Being Vane’s guardian is all she can do from feeling guilty about the tornado and killed Vane’s parents and her dad. But when it’s time to train him, there is weird connection that cannot be continued because Vane is promised to someone else.

“We were two broken, incomplete people. Now we're one. No one will ever understand me the way she will. No one will ever understand her the way I will.”

This is that kind of read that has something for everyone – passion, romance, tension, action, betrayal, pain – the list can go on. POV of Vane & Audra really freshened the read and it was interesting to see how they both reacted to certain situation. One of the things that was definitely good is their connection. Well done Messenger, well done!
